Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic, public speaker and Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency the website which includes videos and comments on depictions of women's roles in popular cultural. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a site to educate women about their role in the narratives of pop culture It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the director of operations. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women as they are portrayed in popular media. In addition she has a mission to increase the awareness of harassment on social media targeted at women, and other those who are marginalized. Sarkeesian, who has the degree of Master's in Political and Social thought at York University, is a well-known public speaking. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. As a university student she became interested in the issues surrounding gender equality and the rights of women at an early stage. The ambitious young woman was slammed by the Internet for starting a web featuring a series about gender and videogames. It was not enough to stop her. It actually strengthened her commitment to be a feminist as well as media critic. She is a recipient of several awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic for several years and founded Feminist Frequency. This non-profit educational organization studies women's roles in the pop-culture narratives.
