
Kelly Clarkson, in full Kelly Brianne Clarkson, (born April 24, 1982, Fort Worth, Texas, U.S.), American musician, singer and TV host who became known as a pop star her win in the TV talent contest American Idol in 2002. Clarkson lived in Burleson, Texas, a suburb of Fort Worth, where her singing talent was initially recognized by her choir instructor when she was a seventh-grade student. Clarkson was able to leave high school and move to Los Angeles where she failed to make it in the entertainment business. After returning to Texas her name was announced as an contestant in the inaugural season of the Fox Broadcasting Company's American Idol, a singing contest that let viewers decide which singer they liked best. Clarkson was adored by the viewers because of her charismatic voice and wit. The prize she received for winning the competition was $1 million as well as an recording deal with RCA.
